Title

Resolution recognizing April 2022 as Fair Housing Month

  Presenter:

Nancy Henjum, District 5 City Councilmember
Catherine Duarte, AICP
Community Development Division

Body

  Summary:

This resolution will designate April as Fair Housing Month while acknowledging the history of the Fair Housing Act and the City’s role in affirmatively furthering fair housing in Colorado Springs.

  Background:

City Council has recognized April as Fair Housing Month in some fashion (resolutions, proclamations, etc.) for many years. As a grantee of federal housing and community development funds, the City is obligated to find various ways of educating the community about the Fair Housing Act, removing barriers to housing choice, and generally furthering fair housing.

The Community Development Division creates programming and resources for renters and homebuyers year-round to help them navigate their rights under the 1968 Fair Housing Act.
