On November 2, 1983, President Ronald Regan signed a bill into law annually recognizing the third Monday of January as Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a Federal holiday in America.  Similar legislation was signed by Governor Dick Lamm on April 4, 1985 to recognize the holiday in Colorado
