Title
Ordinance No. 20-82 Repealing Ordinance No. 17-37 and Dissolving the Colorado Springs Commission on Aging

Presenter:
Jill Gaebler, City Councilmember

Body
Summary:
This ordinance would repeal Ordinance No. 17-37, which established the Colorado Springs Commission on Aging. Following the dissolution of the Commission, the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments has agreed to transition the Commission's functions under its organization.

Background:
In 2017, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 17-37 which established the Colorado Springs Commission on Aging (the "Commission"). The Commission was established to advise the City Council and the Mayor on special issues, opportunities and legislation associated with aging in Colorado Springs.

After several years assisting the City, the Commission has determined that its mission is more closely aligned with the services provided by the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments ("PPACG"). The City of Colorado Springs is a member of PPACG which supports and funds the Area Agency on Aging. The Area Agency on Aging offers a wide variety of services for older adults and their caretakers as part of its duties.

Upon dissolution of the Commission by the City, PPACG has agreed to re-establish the Commission under its umbrella to help support PPAGC, its members, including the City, and the Area Agency on Aging.
