Body

  Summary:

Ms. Sabin will present an annual update on Children’s Hospital, Southern Colorado.  She will also provide information on their new Building Resiliency for Healthy Kids initiative.

  Background:

"Building Resiliency for Healthy Kids" is a pilot program at two Colorado Springs schools. The program focuses on building and improving resiliency in children using one on one health coaching.

Children's Hospital Colorado recently began a new program focused on children’s mental health. This year, sixth-grade students at Eagleview Middle School and fifth-grade students at Monroe Elementary School may participate in the pilot program to meet with coaches each week. The coaches are to address adult-child relationships, self-sufficiency and control, adaptive skills, and “mobilizing sources of faith, hope, and cultural tradition.

At the end of the school year, two researchers from Children's Hospital and UCCS will use responses from students to determine the program’s impact and how to improve the program in the future.
