Title

A Resolution Approving the Intergovernmental Agreement for Fire Protection Services Between the City of Colorado Springs and the Colorado Centre Metropolitan District

  Presenter:

Fire Chief Ted Collas, Colorado Springs Fire Department

Body

  Summary:

An agreement between the City of Colorado Springs (City) and Colorado Centre Metropolitan District (CCMD) to continue cooperating on fire response matters.

  Previous Council Action:

Initial agreement signed in 1992 and reissued in 2005.

  Background:

The City of Colorado Springs agrees to provide fire, rescue, and emergency medical services through its Fire Department to the citizens and property within the Colorado Centre district.  The agreement currently in place will expire December 31, 2019 and both parties agreed it is in their respective best interests to negotiate a new agreement prior to that expiration.  Pursuant to the 2005 agreement, CCMD purchased a fire engine for the City’s use and under the new agreement, they will purchase an additional fire engine in 2019.

This item supports the City’s strategic goals relating to building community and collaborative relationships and excelling at City services.  Citizens in the CCMD will continue to receive quality fire protection and the City will receive a new engine to enhance its delivery of service.

  Financial Implications:

The purchase of a new engine by CCMD for the City results in a savings to the City of approximately $526,000.
