The attached Resolution authorizes staff to proceed with consensual acquisition of land for the 33rd Street Intake and Pump Station Upgrade Project. Armida Barraza is the property owner of a 37,312 square foot parcel of land adjacent to the pump station located at 3317 West Colorado Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado. The portion of real property proposed for the acquisition consists of 12,066 square feet. Colorado Springs Utilities requests the acquisition of this real property for the construction of an upgrade to the intake and pump station at 33rd Street facility.

Background:
The 33rd Street Pump Station Intake and Pump Station Upgrade Project will increase the intake and pumping capacity to maximize local water usage while improving safety and overall operating conditions. The existing intake and pump station experience significant maintenance and downtime due to excessive sediment loading on Fountain Creek from both pre and post 2012 Waldo Canyon Fire conditions. The acquisition of a portion of real property from the adjacent property owner will allow for upgrades and improvements to the existing 33rd Street intake and pump station facility.
In 2017 through 2019, the new intake and pump station will be designed and constructed. The project will minimize the sediment and debris loading with a new intake structure and will replace the existing pump station which has been in service for approximately 50-years.
