Title
A presentation of Resolution of Appreciation designating May as Historic Preservation Month.

Presenter:
Hannah Van Nimwegen, Planner II, Land Use Review Division of the Planning & Community Development Department

Body
Summary:
Each May is designated Historic Preservation Month by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and as Archaeology and Historic Preservation Month by the State of Colorado. The City of Colorado Springs features many historic treasures that will be celebrated during the month.

Adoption of the Resolution is scheduled for the May 10, 2016 Council meeting.

Previous Council Action:
The City Council previously proclaimed May 2015 to be Historic Preservation Month.

Background:
Preservation Month is an opportunity to create awareness of the rich history of the City and to recognize the ongoing community efforts to preserve its history. Throughout May, the Historic Preservation Board, individuals with the City's Old North End Neighborhood, and Historic Preservation Alliance will work together to highlight the cultural and historic resources within the City limits.

The Historic Preservation Board of the City of Colorado Springs has coordinated with the Old North End Neighborhood and the Historic Preservation Alliance, to organize two events:

Historic Preservation Tax Credits for Homeowners, Presentation and Site Visit
Date: Saturday, May 14, 2016
Where: Fellowship Hall at First Lutheran Church
Time: 9:00 a.m. to Noon

Hidden Treasures of the Historic Mesa Springs Neighborhood
Date: Saturday, May 28, 2016
Where: Beidleman Environmental Center, Sondermann Park
Time: 9:00 a.m. to Noon

The Historic Preservation Board encourages citizens to attend the workshops and support any other preservation activities through the month of May, and thanks the City Council for their support of Historic Preservation.
