Celebrate Service, the theme for National Volunteer Week, captures the meaning of this signature week: honoring the people who commit themselves to taking action and solving problems in their community. The City of Colorado Springs provides more service and opportunities due to the significant number of dedicated volunteers throughout the organization.

Background:
National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 and has grown exponentially each year, with thousands of volunteer projects and recognition events scheduled throughout the week. Celebrate Service presents an opportunity for individuals, families, nonprofits organizations and government entities alike to honor the ordinary people who accomplish the extraordinary through volunteer service and who motivate others to follow their lead.
This item supports the City’s strategic goal relating to building community and collaborative relationships by engaging our citizenry in opportunities to provide a wide array of services throughout the community.
