Old North End Neighborhood Traffic Improvements

Summary:
Several traffic improvements are underway in the Old North End neighborhoods following a series of public meetings designed to address transportation and safety concerns expressed by residents. The following actions will be implemented to enhance safety for all roadway users (pedestrians, motorists and bicyclists) and were developed using engineering best practices combined with public input:

- Reduced Speed Limits
- Remove Truck Route on Nevada Avenue
- Add Center Turn-lane on Uintah Street between Corona and Weber Streets
- Improve Safety at Wood Avenue /Uintah Street Intersection
- Install Bicycle Infrastructure
- Improve Safety on Cascade Avenue
- Review Public Transportation Routes

The study continues with future meetings planned to discuss additional traffic concerns.

Background:
Residents have participated in a series of three public meetings to identify transportation challenges in these neighborhoods and review options to create a more pleasant residential neighborhood while accommodating existing and future traffic. The study is ongoing and additional changes may be made to address resident's traffic safety concerns.

This item supports the City's strategic goal relating to building community and collaborative relationships.

Financial Implications:
Funding for the study has been completed using staff time only. Funding for specific projects will be determined based on funding sources available. No General Funds are expected to be used. Most funding will come from PPRTA Traffic Program funds and are for small amounts (under $100,000 per project).
