  Summary:

Each year, the Pikes Peak Chapter of Professional Engineers of Colorado sponsors the local MATHCOUNTS competition series, hosting teams from local middle schools who have a talent and passion for math.  Students engage in exciting, “bee-style” contests, and have the opportunity to win scholarships and prizes and to move on to state and national-level competition.

This year’s regional competition, the 35th annual, was held at Challenger Middle School on Saturday, February 10.  Teams from 8 local middle schools with 72 students participated in the advanced mathematics contest.

The top team was Challenger Middle School, including students Danny Cho, Caleb Chung, Nathan Jensen, and Andy Lewis.

Other outstanding individual finalists going to the State competition are:
Albert Li, Challenger Middle School
Owen Larmour, Challenger Middle School
Christian Wacker, Discovery Canyon Campus Middle School
Timothy Vollmer, Discovery Canyon Campus Middle School
Ari Wang, Mountain Ridge Middle School
Rajeev Ray, Mountain Ridge Middle School
Sahana Datar, Mountain Ridge Middle School
Rohan Gohil, Mountain Ridge Middle School
Noah Schneiderman, Timberview Middle School
Aidan Janney, West Middle School

All of these young people will represent our region in the state competition at the University of Denver on March 24, 2018.
