Background:
The redevelopment of Southwest Downtown continues General Palmer's original vision for our community. Since Palmer's time, the community has built on the vision with the Downtown Action Plan, SCIP funding for America the Beautiful Park, the 2001 Southwest Downtown Urban Renewal Plan, the Imagine Downtown Colorado Springs Master Plan, the 2009 Form Based Zone, the 2012 Urban Land Institute Panel, City for Champions, including the United States Olympic Museum, and the 2016 Experience Downtown Master Plan.

In addition to the various community-based plans and initiatives, the vision for Southwest Downtown redevelopment is consistent with the City's strategic plan.

In the furtherance of Southwest Downtown redevelopment, City Council will be presented with recent designs and concepts for improved public streetscape along W. Vermijo Ave. and S. Sierra Madre St. These designs are based on 6 guiding principles that were developed from multiple consultant led design charrettes: flexible, destination, sustainability, timeless, catalyst, and unique.
