Title

Healthcare Amenities & Land Uses

  Presenter:

Councilmember Don Knight
Scott Godde & Naomi Randell, City Council Interns

Body

  Summary:

Councilmember Knight requested that Council interns research & review information relating to land uses and amenities available in the vicinity of the new Children’s Hospital facility in the north part of Colorado Springs.  As a result of their research, Ms. Randell and Mr. Godde will review the following findings:
• The surrounding areas around children’s hospitals in other cities are very diverse. Some had many amenities, while others had hardly any near them. Many hospitals provide necessary amenities.
• Most children’s hospitals had the following amenities nearby: Lodging, Pharmacies, Banking, Food Services, and Public Transportation.
• The new Children’s Hospital that will be built in Colorado Springs is located on the campus of Memorial Hospital North.  Because of this, many amenities are already in the area including a grocery store, other food restaurants, banking, and a pharmacy.  Recommended amenities that the area doesn’t have: Public Transportation and Lodging.  The Ronald McDonald House is planning on creating a new house 10-15 mins away from the new Children’s Hospital.  Most of the surrounding areas are already developed
