Title
Colorado Department of Transportation Presentation on New Intercity Bus Service

Body
From:
Craig Blewitt, Transit Services Manager

Summary:
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin an interregional bus service this spring along I-25 and I-70, including service between Colorado Springs and Denver. Representatives from CDOT's Division of Transit and Rail will provide a presentation to introduce this service.

Background:
The interregional express bus service, branded as Bustang, will provide weekday bus service connecting several cities to Denver including Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and Glenwood Springs. The service between Denver and Colorado Springs will be focused on commuters, with most trips departing from Colorado Springs in the early morning and returning in the evening. Bustang passenger boarding locations in the Colorado Springs area will include the Park-n-Ride at I-25 and Tejon, the Downtown Transfer Station, and the Park-n-Rides at Woodmen Road and in Monument.

The City of Colorado Springs Transit Services Division provided a similar express bus service, the FrontRange Express (FREX), to and from Denver between 2004 and 2012.

Financial Implications:
Bustang is supported by state FASTER grant funding. While the City of Colorado Springs will continue to support the operations of the Tejon and Woodmen Park-n-Ride lots, CDOT is and will continue to be financially responsible for the care of the infrastructure of those lots. Transit Staff and CDOT are currently working on a formal agreement for funding responsibility for the Park-n-Ride lots.
