Title

Public Safety Evacuation Process Discussion

  Presenter:

Randy Royal, CSFD Fire Chief
Vince Niski, CSPD Chief
Jim Reid, Regional Director, Office of Emergency Management

Body

  Summary:

A discussion about the existing evacuation processes within Colorado Springs, and the coordination that occurs between the CSFD, CSPD and OEM.  The discussion will focus on an all-hazards approach that includes wildfire, floods, hazardous materials, etc., as well as the ongoing education, training and preparations that are tied to evacuation processes.

  Background:

There have been recent neighborhood discussions and requests relative to evacuation processes and planning, mainly relative to additional development.  The city and county have had a history of successful evacuations tied to all-hazards incidents and most recently enacted due to wildfire and flooding incidents. CSFD, CSPD and OEM continue to look for ways to improve in these areas while actively providing education opportunities to our community so that they can be prepared, if needed.
