Summary:
This is an informational presentation to provide an update on the implementation of the Public Art Master Plan as well as a report on current projects and priorities of the Public Art Commission.
Background:
On November 4, 2020, the City Council of Colorado Springs adopted a new Public Art Master Plan, “Public Art COS.” City staff developed the plan with assistance from independent consultants and with input from community surveys, stakeholder interviews, and the Public Art Commission. Upon adoption, City Council requested periodic updates on the implementation of the plan. The presentation will provide a high-level summary of the planning effort and key findings and review the steps taken over the past sixteen months to implement goals and strategies. Public Art Commission (PAC) leadership will also provide an update on their work and priorities. This includes a status on their efforts to raise funding for a Public Art Program Coordinator, plans to update the PAC ordinance, and planned revision of procedures related to public input and acceptance of public art. These actions are in accordance with the goals outline in the master plan and proposals made as part of the ReTool process.
