Body
From:
Karen Palus, Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services
Will DeBoer, Cemetery Operations Administrator
Summary:
The Cemetery Enterprise, which includes both Evergreen and Fairview Cemeteries, continues to periodically develop land for sales as burial sites. The attached ordinance is to increase the burial spaces inventory by approving the plat of three new sections at Evergreen Cemetery, specifically blocks 203, 212 and 213. The new burial sections are located in the northeast sector of Evergreen. The sections collectively will add a total of 1,804 spaces.

Background:
The City Cemeteries, Evergreen and Fairview, are enterprise operations which do not receive taxpayer assistance. The Cemetery Enterprise needs to periodically add to its inventory of burial spaces for sales to support operations. The new burial sections were completed after two years of work and planning by several City Departments.
Financial Implications:
Maintaining a level of inventory allows the Cemetery Enterprise to offer a number of burial options to its customers. As the Enterprise must support its operation with revenues generated through sales, it's imperative that a robust inventory is available for sale at all times.
