Presenter:

Body
Summary:
The proposed ordinance makes changes to City Code Section 1.1.201 (F) General Penalty, to remove the dollar amount reference of the pedestrian safety program funding fee surcharge.

Previous Council Action:
Ordinance 08-2, "An Ordinance Amending Section 201 (General Penalty) of Part 2 (General Penalty) of Article 1 (Administration) of Chapter 1 (Administration, Personnel and Finance) of the Code of the City of Colorado Springs 2001, as Amended, Pertaining to Penalties" was approved on January 9, 2008. This added Section F set the pedestrian safety program funding fee surcharge at $15.00.

Background:
This City Code change is recommended to remove the dollar amount reference as related to the pedestrian safety program funding fee surcharge. The pedestrian safety program funding surcharge is assessed upon convictions for most traffic violations in the Municipal Court. The authority to determine the fee amount has been delegated to the Mayor in City Code Section 10.24.101 (C). Removing the specific dollar reference will eliminate the need to update the Code upon a new fee setting in the future.
