Title
Briefing on 2020 City Council Redistricting Process
Presenter:
Sarah B. Johnson, City Clerk
Body
Summary:
The Colorado Springs City Charter requires the City Clerk to redraw the six City Council Districts every four years. The City Clerk will provide a briefing on the process and timelines.
Background:
The Colorado Springs City Charter requires the City Clerk to redraw the six council district boundaries at least 120 days (12/7/2020), but no more than 150 days (11/7/2020) prior to a district council member election.
City Code requires the City Council to appoint an Advisory Committee to oversee the public process, educate the public, assist the City Clerk and advise City Council on the redistricting process. The Advisory Committee is composed of 7 members with one member from each of the six council districts and one member at-large. More information on the Advisory Committee application process and timeline will be announced soon. The Advisory Committee will host public informational meetings in each of the six council districts in June.
