Summary:
The hazardous structure located at 1326 W. Kiowa Street, was removed, based on the Order to Demolish received from Roger N. Lovell, Regional Building Official, dated September 19, 2019. This work was completed by City Contract and the property owner has not paid the total cost. The total cost of $55,701.00 includes the abatement and demolition costs of $44,560.80, plus a 25 percent surcharge, as allowed by the City Code section 2.6.104, to defray inspection, collection, publication and other administrative expenses. The City Engineer recommended to City Council to set a public hearing on July 13, 2021 to consider an ordinance assessing costs for work performed at 1326 W. Kiowa Street, Tax Schedule No. 7412326024 in the amount of $55,701.00 to recover all costs.
Background:
The structure on this property was declared a "Dangerous Building" and the property owner was ordered by the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department on January 25, 2019 via certified letter to mitigate the hazardous structure. The owner did not complete the abatement work and an Order to Demolish was received by the City Engineer on September 19, 2019. The City Engineering Division of the Public Works Department contracted for the demolition and associated abatement work. Demolition of the structure was completed on May 25, 2021.
