Summary:
The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department is seeking approval of a supplemental appropriation of $300,000 from the Park Land Dedication Ordinance (PLDO) Fund to fund the construction of the new restrooms and new playground in Bancroft Park, as identified in the 2017 approved Bancroft Park Master Plan. The current available PLDO fund balance totals $830,901.

Background:
Bancroft Park is a neighborhood park in the core of Old Colorado City. The land was bought by the City Parks Department for a park in 1926 from the school district and converted into the park over the following few years. The band shell was erected in 1935 providing opportunities for community concerts and shows. The plaza space was enlarged in 1948 for new shuffleboard courts and to allow for square dancing and movie nights in the park.
In January 2017 a fire damaged potions of the band shell. The need to repair the damaged building as well as local community interest in the park served as a catalyst to update the park master plan.
Bancroft Park underwent a master plan update in the spring of 2017. Through the master planning process the community identified several issues and new opportunities for improvements within the park. The Bancroft Park Master Plan was approved by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on May 11, 2017. Partial funding was secured in the 2018 budget for park enhancements.
