  Summary:

A petition committee submitted a citizen-initiated referendum petition for Ordinance 25-16 on February 26, 2025, which contains the minimum number of verified signatures required to move forward in the referendum process and which has been deemed sufficient.

 

  Background: 

The City Clerk completed the petition packet verification process for the referendum on Ordinance No. 25-16 on March 21, 2025. The petition packet met the minimum required number of valid signatures and is deemed sufficient to proceed to the next steps. The City Clerk promptly presented the Certificate of Sufficiency to Council, pursuant to City Charter Article XII, Section 12-40, on March 21, 2025. Public notice of the same was provided.

Pursuant to City Charter Article XII, Section 12-60(a)(3), if the petition contains the required minimum number of valid signatures, City Council shall reconsider the ordinance, and if not entirely repealed, City Council shall call for a special election within 90 days of the certification of sufficiency.
