Summary:  National Volunteer Week, April 6th through 12th, 2014, is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging citizens to engage in their communities.  The City of Colorado Springs offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities with thousands of individuals participating throughout the year.
Previous Council Action:   N/A
Background:  Established in 1974, National Volunteer Week is about taking action, encouraging individuals and their communities to be at the center of positive change.  Within the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department alone, over 6,000 volunteers contributed almost 150,000 hours of service to the community in 2013 to include building trails, coaching youth programs, and adopting parks.  Without such committed volunteers, the Parks Department would not be able to provide many of the programs and services that benefit the community.
