Summary:
To highlight the breadth and depth of the Colorado Springs parks system, the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department is asking City Council to recognize July as National Park and Recreation Month. This year's theme - “The Power Of” - celebrates the impact of parks and recreation in bringing people together, strengthening communities and enhancing quality of life.
Two special events will be held for the community to further celebrate the month. First is a Movie in the Park at Hillside Community Center on July 17th from 6 to 8 p.m. The second is a Music in the Park event at Pinion Valley Park on July 24th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Additional information can be found on the City’s website at ColoradoSprings.gov/parkandrecmonth.
Background:
Since 1985, people in the United States have celebrated Park and Recreation Month in July to promote building strong, vibrant and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation and to recognize the more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals - along with hundreds of thousands of part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers - that maintain our country’s local, community and state parks.
