Title

A Resolution Approving an Intergovernmental Agreement between El Paso County and the City of Colorado Springs, on behalf of its enterprise Colorado Springs Utilities, for the Sharing of Fiber Optic Cable in Colorado Department of Transportation Conduit on State Highway 24 Rights-of-Way

  Presenter:

Jason Miller, Manager of Fiber Optics and Telecom

Body

  Summary:

The City of Colorado Springs on behalf of Colorado Springs Utilities (Utilities) is seeking to enter into an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with El Paso County (County) for the Sharing of Fiber Optic Cable in Colorado Department of Transportation Conduit on State Highway 24 Rights-of-Way.

  Background:

Through this IGA, Utilities seeks to memorialize County’s transfer to Utilities of 24 fiber strands, including the buffer tubes in which these fiber strands are located, in the County SH 24 Fiber Optic Cable, and County’s grant of access to the County SH 24 Pull Boxes in exchange for Utilities’ monetary contribution that facilitated County’s obligations under a 2019 County Colorado Department of Transportation IGA (2019 County CDOT IGA). Pursuant to the 2019 County CDOT IGA, County may assign excess capacity in the County SH 24 Fiber Optic Cable to other governmental entities. Utilities considers the offered fiber optic cable and associated pull box access beneficial in the provision of its utility service.
