Background:
The Colorado Springs Urban Renewal Authority (CSURA) was established by the City of Colorado Springs City Council in 1970 through the approval of Ordinance No. 3995.
The current board consists of nine commissioners appointed for a term of five years and terms are staggered so one vacancy occurs each year. Accordance with HB-1348, four additional commissioner positions have been added to the board: one to be appointed by El Paso County, one to be appointed by the School Districts, one to be appointed by the Special Districts and one to be appointed by the Mayor.
Previous Council Action:
Councilmember Merv Bennett was confirmed to serve five years on the Colorado Springs Urban Renewal Authority Board in April, 2013, re-appointed to the URA Board in April of 2018, and resigned after his term on City Council ended in April 2019. Councilmember Jill Gaebler was appointed to serve the remaining four years on the term in May 2019 and resigned after her term on City Council ended in April 2021.
