Summary:
After a thorough review and stakeholder process, City Council has determined the Public Safety Sales Tax Oversight Committee no longer serves a legislative function as it relates to City Council.
Background:
City Council has established and appoints membership for over 20 Boards, Commissions, and Committees. A majority of these were created prior to the form of government change to a Strong Mayor in 2010.
As part of the 2020-2024 Strategic Plan, City Council has prioritized reviewing all City Council Appointed Boards, Commissions, and Committees to ensure they are serving City Council’s legislative role. This review has included the transition of the Commission on Aging to Pike’s Peak Area Council of Governments, the dissolution of Food Policy Advisory Board with the creation of Sustainability Advisory Board, and the dissolution of the Human Relations Commission.
City Council proposes dissolving the Public Safety Sales Tax Oversight Committee as a City Council Appointed Committee. The Committee no longer serves a legislative purpose and has completed all but one of the projects outlined in the enabling legislation from 2002.
The Committee may transition to a Mayoral Committee that reviews sales tax and fee allocation similar to the 2C Road Improvement Committee and Fire Mitigation Advisory Board.
Previous Council Action:
City Council created the Public Safety Sales Tax Oversight Committee with the passage of Ordinance 02-45 on March 26, 2002 and further amended the legislation with Ordinance 14-36 on June 26, 2014
