  Presenter:

Roland Rainey, Councilmember District 6

Body

  Summary:

After a thorough review and stakeholder engagement process, City Council has determined that, while LETAC was created with appropriate intent, its advisory structure overlaps with more direct, data-driven, and accessible transparency and engagement mechanisms currently in place or under development with CSPD.

  Background:

City Council created the Law Enforcement Transparency and Accountability Commission with the passage of Ordinance 20-44 on July 14, 2020 to advise on and recommend areas and topics of study related to police operations, best practices, and resource allocation, to solicit public input, and to promote improved relationships between the citizens and the Police Department.

  Previous Council Action:

City Council created the Law Enforcement Transparency and Accountability Commission with the passage of Ordinance 20-44 on July 14, 2020. City Council revised the name of the Commission through Ordinance 22-33, adopted on June 28, 2022, which revised the name from the Law Enforcement Transparency and Accountability Commission to the Law Enforcement Transparency and Advisory Commission.
